Woodcraft at Foothill Frolic Farm
This week Tuesday-Friday, Feb 8th-11th, from 10:30am - 5:30pm Foothill Frolic Farm on Gammon Creek’s Self Serve FarmStand will be open for Winter Woodcraft Shopping.
This will be the start of a seasonal series of woodcraft items handmade right here on the farm.
All wooden pieces are made from trees that have fallen or died because of natural reasons. Foothill Frolic Farm’s woodcrafts are similar to “reclaimed”… recovering wood that otherwise wood be lost and turning it into something naturally beautiful that has a story.
First Woodcraft Series ————“Spalted Sugar Maple Reversible Candleholders”
These pieces were inspired by a very old Sugar Maple Tree that lost a big branch back in 2020. This tree is still alive and lives a top the tip top of the back hill. It has been there for at least 100 years.
This sugar maple branch was spalted and had such lines of character. All the candleholders were kept true to the shape of the sugar maple branch. To start with, Eastenn Dutch and I used the drawknife to remove the bark. Then, we sawed the branch into horizontals. Next came lots of sanding. As I foresaw each as a reversible candleholder, Matthew and Eastenn Dutch drill pressed taper candle holes on one side and tea light candle holes on the other. Finally, an all organic oil and wax was applied, which really pulled out the maple’s spectacular lines of color. Each Spalted Sugar Maple Reversible Candleholder is unique. Each candleholder comes with 100% Beeswax Candles.
Please stop by and peruse. All will be set up on display for sell at the FarmStand. Complementary organic coffee will be available for sipping. The weather is to be perfect!!
These make simply beautiful adornments to tables, islands, shelfs, and mantles.
Please pass along and share this post.
Thanks,
Allie
