This is a special "POP UP" Baldy Beef Cow named "Boss Cow" L5.
She is a huge and beautiful cow that has been a leader on Foothill Frolic Farm for many years. She has produced wonderful saved Heifers and has had many years of great production. We made the very hard decision to raise her out as a beef, for a very special holiday offering, earlier in the year when she lost her first calf EVER to faulty teats and sack. It is really hard harvesting such a good looking Mamma Cow like her, but these are the difficult decisions we make for management purposes. When we made this decision back in the early summer, she has rotationally grazed with our heifer herd and ate so well without carrying a calf, so all obtained food energy would have went directly to her.
Like her name describes she was indeed a boss. She new her place on the totem poll was very high and she certainly expected all the other herd members to know. She moved and ate as she pleased, bearing no sense of duty or thoughtfulness, except to her current calf. She was very haute, but was also a leader cow and could get the herd to move and follow her and these cows are always important within a working herd.
She was one of our largest framed cows still in our main herd, which more than likely got passed down from her Hereford Mamma. Not many cows in our main herd currently have her look. Like I say about every animal, she was unique and lovely in her best and own ways and we are very thankful for her in her time here and beyond.
