Schoolhouse Restoration...Project Based Learning at it's Best + Only a Couple Spots Left for Fall Semester!

Well, here we are—it’s early September, and it is blazin’ out! After talking for months about the steady rains we experienced throughout the summer, the last stretch of summer has decided to shine strong, with all HOTNESS on deck for sure here in Northeast Tennessee at Foothill Frolic Farm.
Our first expedition, Guardians of the Farm, will begin on September 16th, and we wanted to remind everyone that out of our 8 openings for the Fall, we now have just 2 spots remaining!
So, if you have been thinking about signing up—or you know someone whose child would be a perfect fit for our programming—now is the time to act or share!
And remember, this is our Community Building Year, so we have options for families who want to jump all the way in with our full-time 4-day program, as well as those who want to “get their feet wet” with our 2-day program.

As you might remember from those first photos we shared back on July 2nd, we were just beginning the Foothill Frolic School journey. We had started clearing away and uncovering the old farm tenant and storehouse building that would become our schoolhouse.
Well, here we are two months later—and just 12 days before the start of our very first Fall Semester Expedition!
Other than all the hard work we have been doing to bring in old hardwood materials and limestone rock from fallen-down barns, along with old stashed-away stockpiles of rough-cut sawmill lumber, Shaffer Construction has been doing all of the restoration work. We have been able to use these reclaimed and salvaged materials for foundational beams, studs, rafters, door plates and frames, ridge boards, purlins, and other structural members that have needed to be improved or replaced.
Stacy Shaffer, the owner of Shaffer Construction, and I both grew up here locally and went to high school together. So, it is pretty neat to come back together just two years shy of 30 years after our high school graduation and now be working side by side to see this Schoolhouse Project through.
We are SO excited for the start of this school year!
Our teachers and guides began their school-year training and preparation this past Wednesday, and all the groundwork and behind-the-scenes curriculum preparation has been laid for the entire Fall Semester. We truly believe all of our Program Expeditions are going to be unbelievable!
